Forget your normal route
Challenge Mode remixes trap placements. The paths you memorized for the standard demo will get you killed. Treat each screen like you're playing for the first time — pause at every edge and watch for movement.
Challenge Mode launched with the Steam Demo on April 24, 2026 and was officially announced in a Steam news post on April 25. It remixes trap placements and raises the difficulty — here's how to survive.
What is Challenge Mode
Challenge Mode remixes trap placements. The paths you memorized for the standard demo will get you killed. Treat each screen like you're playing for the first time — pause at every edge and watch for movement.
In Challenge Mode, checkpoints may not reset all hazards. Some traps respawn even after reaching a checkpoint. Always scan your surroundings before moving after a respawn.
Version 18's checkpoint trap (where one checkpoint kills you on respawn) is reported to be even more aggressive in Challenge Mode, with tighter timing and additional follow-up traps after the initial one.
Challenge Mode rewards patience even more than the standard demo. Creators attempting speedruns on Challenge Mode report that walking — not running — is the only way to consistently survive the new trap density.
Challenge Mode increases trap frequency but keeps the same audio cue system. Train yourself to react to the rumble, creak, and shake sounds rather than relying on visual memory — the visual patterns are intentionally deceptive.
