What is character creation

How character customization works

Character creation was introduced in the 'Demo Expanded' update (February 22, 2026) as a headline feature alongside checkpoints and new tree types. The developer's devlog described it as the ability to 'design your own character to make the tree bullying feel a little more personal.'
The Steam news post from January 21, 2026 titled Now It’s Personal: Introducing Character Customization gave an early look at the system and called it your own version of miis according to community feedback.
When starting a new game, players can choose between the default 'glasses man' or enter the character creation screen to customize hairstyle, outfits, colors, and accessories before entering the forest.
Developer Tykenn has asked the community for feedback on which hairstyles, outfits, and colors they'd like to see added in the full game, indicating the system will continue expanding.
